Missing Neopets as it's down for the move to Jumpstart? Someone found a cached page of Games Graveyard. I just played the old version of Ice Cream Machine. Wow.

It's here.

This morning I got the Snow Roller avvie, this afternoon, Meerca Chase (just too late to win Better Than You, darn) and some kind person on the boards is accepting challenges with their Darigan Tonu so I got that one too!

The Meerca Chase one was so lucky; I'd been mindlessly refreshing hoping for a fish negg, got a power negg, started, got ANOTHER power negg a few neggs later and bam! Avvie score right there. Ended up with about 1400.

I was insanely jealous when Lauren used the petpet labray and got a pirate Candychan because I adore Candychans to bits.

Guess what? I just zapped my pile of soot and got a Darigan Candychan for my Kacheek!

Never ever zapping it again :;clings::

Keep the chocolate; I just got a Magical Blueberry Chia Pop in a random event on Neopets.

Seriously, Neopets is like my new fandom :-)

Remember the inflated junk items last week? That ended today and a new daily event was revealed -- you give the scientist MORE worthless yet suddenly incredibly expensive items and get a random event; stats increase/decrease on a neopet, an item, nothing...

When L and I clicked on the page at 5.00 p.m, and saw it wanted more stuff not a fun new plot we screamed long and loud and stamped our feet.

Not sure if you have to give him something every time to press the red button; I'll find out tomorrow.

ANYWAY, that first wash of random events gifts has brought Neopians to pitchfork waving mob levels of rage.

Why? Some people, quite a few, got avatars. Retired avatars. Incredibly rare avatars (Lost Desert stamp collector avvie with three stamps on their page anyone? That's like 300 million NP right there.)

Avatars are icons the site awards; some are simple to get, some take years of effort and untold millions of NPs.

Apparently getting the avvies as prizes is supposed to be super incredible rare and the coding glitched. Doesn't matter.

We are talking meltdown of epic proportions here on the neoboards. EPIC.

Me, I got a petpetpet. A dragonfly nymph. No idea if it's valuable; all the ones on the Trading Post have no price.

ETA Wow. One is on the TP now for two million ::blinks::

There's an event going on at Neopets now that, donning my Hat of Pomposity, is a reflection of human nature and greed as well as a lesson in economics, supply and demand.

Let's start at the beginning. On Neopets, the currency is Neopoints and items are won on games or purchased from other users. Some items are valueless, priced at 1 NP, a glut on the market. You literally give them away when you get them, donating them to the Money Tree for people to pick up or discarding them so that they disappear in a cloud of pixels.

Some items, rare ones, can go for millions of NP.

From time to time, there's an event or a plot on Neopets. The last one had a Supernatural nod and wink; this time it's Firefly, but that's irrelevant.

There's a spaceship and three machine parts, each with three sections. At roughly twelve hour intervals, you go to the page, the scientist tells you what it'll cost to buy a piece of the machinery and when they're all assembled, you get something nice.

This is stage two of what's probably going to be something big and the items required are all 1 NP items and you need, say, 12 per go (three veiled autumn hats, five rotten omelet sandwiches, three amber swords for example).

Cheap. Easy. No problem.

For the first one, yes. But whereas my first machine part was number three, someone else's was number five, etc and within a very short space of time, a list was posted of what valueless items were needed to complete the machine, some sixty or seventy of them.

Now some are so common it's impossible to corner the market. Others less so. WITHIN HOURS, items that two days ago were being thrown away are now going for 40 -50,000 NP. People are buying them, inflating the price and making a fortune.

I have millions of NP. I can buy what I need and do the same for Lauren and Eleanor if needed, but let me say when I went on the neoboards and saw Neopians rallying to trade the worthless items between themselves for free to beat the profiteers, I felt a glow of pride.

Yeah, you could profit from this. Supply and demand, right?

Or you could think of the newbies coming into their first event with not a lot in the bank (Yes, Neopia has a bank and you earn interest) and play nice.

To all my fellow Neopians: I just fed my 75th kad and went pink! Thus reclaiming untold hours of time refreshing there.

and tonight I should get a gold trophy on Jhudora's Bluff.
Yes, it's been a year since I started playing Neopets. Taliskerdragon is presently a girl after being zapped by the Lab Ray and I have customized her for the special day:

In a year I have wasted more hours than I like to think about amassing millions of Neopoints and spending them on stamps, books, avatar collecting and playing games.

Currently I'm chasing the avatars for high scores in Dubloon Disaster, Ice Cream Machine and Carnival of Terror (tips welcome).

Much fun has been had. I got a bag of peanuts on a Snow Faerie Quest, found an Oranu Bead on the Money Tree and let's not forget the incredibly rare Scratchcard I scratched by mistake :;sobs:;

Tally has gone from male to female a few times, from Green to Lost Desert, to Island to Darigan to Striped to Speckled to Snow to...he's been through a lot, poor baby. And in my avvie quest I adopted three new pets from the pound so he has siblings now.

Here's to year two!

Neopet related: today I got three avvies, ultimate bullseye, the abandoned plushie and King Skarl.

Cool? Yes.

The Money Tree has donated items, 90% of which are rubbish, worth 1 neopoint. The bead is worth TWO MILLION.

Got the Kiss the Mortog avvie and The Buzzer Game one today. Up to 201 now!

And my Koi got painted jelly by the lab ray.

I should change my icon...Taliskerdragon is Lost Desert now...

I suck at Key Quest so much. Seriously suck. People must see me in the waiting room and chortle with glee knowing it means they're not going to come last.

I just don't get it. When the minigames start, my mouse doesn't seem to work right. I've tried playing in other browsers but it seems to not react on screen. When it does, the other people are sometimes so much faster at stuff that I get seriously suspicious. Four people playing a minigame and three of us get say 20, 30, 55 and the fourth gets 1050 points? How are they so fast?!

I just donated 100 NP to the Money Tree on Neopets feeling randomly generous.

Within the next five minutes I:

won 4,000 NP on the Wheel of Mediocrity
won 10,000 NP on a Race to Riches scratchcard
finished a training course at Mystery Island and got a super bonus increasing my level not by one but by three.

So has anyone ever had 100,000 neopoints they didn't want and tried the Wheel of Extravagance?

I can't imagine being brave enough to click the button :-)
