Meep

I think my Kobo is no more. It won't register when I plug it into the computer, won't power off, totally frozen, and even the paperclip in the button on the back trick to reset it has no effect.

It's two years old (or is it three?) so it's way out of warranty, and the next page button is worn to a nubbin but still...meep.

I looked at options for a new one. They don't make mine any more. It's all touchscreen ones and though the new ones coming out in October look fancy-dancy, they don't hold more books. Why? Because they're cluttered with apps and connections to Twitter and other such fiddle-faddle, and the battery time? Pfft.

I never wanted that in an e-reader. I wanted to be able to READ BOOKS on it, no more, no less. I have a computer for the other stuff. WiFi to be able to buy books outside the house? Sure. I don't mind that.

The rest of it?

No, thanks.

I have friends who bought their kids Kobos and they're lying in their rooms, thick with dust.

Maybe I'll see if they want to sell them...

Hyperventilates

I just tried to add some books to my Kobo and Calibre told me it was full!!

I HAVE TO DELETE SOME BOOKS :: whimpers::

Okay, I can put them back on, but THEY WON'T BE THERE IF I WANT THEM!

And it makes no sense. It’s basically saying I have enough books on there.

THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY BOOKS.

::whimpers::

I've heard tell of expansion chips...

Heh

I just kept clicking a button on Fictionwise with great determination, trying to buy a book, then spotted the warning patiently flashing: You've already bought this book.

Thank you, Fictionwise.

I checked Calibre and yep, I have it, but it slipped through the cracks and didn't get the 'unread' tag it needed for me to spot it when I looked for my next book to read.

I've got over 1100 books on my reader/Calibre now; something tells me this isn't the only lost one. God, I'm such a packrat when it comes to books; really must work on whittling down my TBR list instead of gleefully adding more as I come across daily freebies, library books, or
x% off coupons.

Dollhouse

Amazon are having a Kindle sale. I'm a tad ticked as I paid over $20 for a collection of essays about Dollhouse, Inside Joss' Dollhouse: From Alpha to Rossum, but if you want it on Kindle, it's 99 cents here

They have lots of sale Kindle books including a smilar essay book about House which is here.

Full list is here.

You don't need a Kindle to read them; you can use Calibre to get them onto your device or read them on your computer.

Reason #36 why I love my ebook reader

I can put it down on the side and read as I towel off after a bath. I can do that with a paperback if I wedge it open with a tube of toothpaste laid across it, but that can get messy if it springs closed.

Ebook readers don't close themselves on you ::hearts::

I don't actually read it in the bath. If I'm at a beach I will use the ziploc bag method of protection but I can't quite risk bathing with it.

But towelling off...oh yeah. I'm so there.

This is me in a grabby frenzy

I've snaffled some Wodehouse school stories and E Nesbits off Gutenburg for my darling Kobo, but I just found that there are LOTS MORE places to get free out of print old childrens' books totally legally (some to download, some to borrow) and I'm grabbing them as fast as I can can, with this secret conviction that it's all a big mistake and someone will take them off me again.

I just borrowed an incredibly rare Patricia Wentworth from here

http://openlibrary.org/

and downloaded a lot of L M Montgomery Anne books. I have those in real books, of course, but it's so nice having them on my e-reader too ::beams::

More! Need more books!
