Mother's Day

So far I have...

made breakfast for everyone.

cleaned cats' room

done recycling bins

emptied car and vacuumed it because we've bought a new one, yay, and it's going as a trade-in on Wednesday :;pets it::

cleaned kitchen including dishes of doom, all awash with grease as we had duck breasts in blackberry sauce last night

made lunch

emptied dishwasher

am about to weed the border.

And do I care? No.

For I have Presidents Choice pecan butter tart icecream. Butter tart flavour icecream with bits of pastry and pecans in it. It is very, very nice.

I don't go a bomb on Mother's Day. For one thing, for our mums in England, it's already happened a couple of months ago and we can never send them cards as they're not in the shops then. For another, I was brought up by a woman who saw it as a way to chisel money off children and only ever wanted a homemade card and a hug.

I've carried that tradition on.

Which doesn't mean I haven't been howling, 'It's Mother's Day, darn it! Someone help me with the tidying!'

ETA And I just saw I have a Mother's Day virtual gift from the LJ Fairy; thank you so much! ::hugs:: I'm not really being bah humbug about it altogether; I got misty-eyed when Lauren presented me with her homemade card in French telling me she aimed me beaucoup.

I'm just not keen on the commercials implying that, yes, a diamond necklace is the perfect gift for Mom...
