I'd had this book on my shelf for a while -- it's from 1990 and I picked it up in a used bookstore in town -- so I packed it to read on the plane. Huff's always entertaining and I love the way she works in gay/bi characters without any fuss. This fantasy has a strong m/m storyline between two of the three leads and it's definitely worth reading given how few fantasy books do that.

The story itself was very readable and had everything you want/expect in a fantasy; villians, magic, fighting, taverns, political intrigue, a quest... One of the torture scenes had me gulping but I loved the three leads and I wish she'd done a sequel in this world.

Definitely worth looking out for and Amazon has a few used copies.

I just finished reading the new Paul/Jack/Daniel fic by [personal profile] princessofgeeks
Love the One You're With

Guh. I adore Paul Davis and not enough people write him. It's a source of much pouting.

Not pouting today though; big smiles; HUGE :-)
I had a review for one of my old Buffy fics on FF.net and after answering it, idly browsed through the TS section.

I thought I was seeing something when I spotted the words 'Arthur crossover' and I just had to click.

If you don't know the show (the books are by Marc Brown, Arthur is an aardvark, and it's a cartoon; I must've seen every episode a million times and can still sing Crazy Bus and the 'Having fun isn't hard, when you've got a library card' song) it won't mean much. If you have, go read, right now. It's not very long, totally G rated so you won't be traumatized in any way, and it captures DW's character perfectly (Machiavelli crossed with Napoleon).

I'm still snickering. Wonderful fic. Just so witty and sharp. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] wneleh

I can't rec it properly because I don't know who wrote it, but today's fic at the [livejournal.com profile] ts_secret_santa comm was so much fun; really sounded like them. It's set right after Cypher: witty, hot, with angst and primal!Jim, confused Jim, yearning Jim...

Good stuff :-)

It's here:

A Noble Mind O'erthrown
I could pretty much rec [livejournal.com profile] arrow00's fics without reading them, knowing that they'd be good just because. Except I can't imagine her writing a TS fic that I didn't immediately devour and then go back for seconds.

What's Important Jim/Blair, NC17, post series, is a convincing, thoughtful look at Jim's senses and how they affect him and his relationship with Blair, set against a small-town background with people who don't always know what to make of their new sheriff and deputy but know enough to appreciate them. Mostly.

It's hot, heart-warming, funny and poignant by turns and well worth reading.
Just skimming through my f-list barely awake and found a gem of a J/D fic to start my day off very nicely:

This Is How It Works by [livejournal.com profile] bertybertle

When these two fight and negotiate their way to something they can live with, it's always just so intense and simmering and this is no exception.
[livejournal.com profile] carodee writes Jim dark, dark, dark sometimes; with a humorous edge, sometimes, sure, as in her Insatiable series, but in the Controlverse, there's nothing but the darkness, swamping both Jim and Blair and it's car crash compelling, can't look away, stuff.

She's just added a new fic to the 'verse:

Lunch Break, and definitely read the warnings, but if you already know this verse, you'll know what to expect.

I had the pleasure of beta reading it and I'm so taken with the way she's slowly revealing Jim's motivations. He's still doing unforgivable stuff to Blair but I'd say of the two of them, Jim's more the victim and more the one broken beyond repair than Blair, no matter what Blair's suffering.

It's intense and very different from the usual Jim/Blair, but it has at its core, as most fics in this fandom do, the conviction that these two are bound together, for whatever reason, endlessly orbiting each other, unable to break away.

In this 'verse, that's literal.

ETA Caro's posted a timeline with links to all the fics in the 'verse here.
Just read this and oh, boy, am I totally melted into a puddle.

Hell of a Sight Jack/Daniel NC17 by [livejournal.com profile] dragojustine.

Daniel talking to Jack during sex is just about the hottest thing ever... beautifully done smut that builds in intensity; you can feel Daniel's control squeezing tighter with every passing moment.

I'm doing a piece of meta on crossovers for the [livejournal.com profile] shared_wisdom comm and I'm ending with a list of some classics/my favorites. I want to cover as many fandoms as possible so could you rec me your favorites, from the short and sweet to the epics; PWPs, angst, humor, gen, whatever?

Look forward to finding some gems to read and thanks in advance to anyone who contributes :;hugs::

I feel full of the Gibbs/DiNozzo love right now and no wonder.

[livejournal.com profile] justhuman has just posted A Friend in Indiana (S4 spoilers)

and [livejournal.com profile] spikedluv posted Breaking Up is Hard to Do, NC17, an episode tag fic for the S5 finale, with spoilers.

Both are well worth reading and both capture the voices and personality of the two men so well. Definitely ones I'll want to read again.

I got a birthday fic from [livejournal.com profile] captainlogic!

It's a wonderfully thoughtful piece that really packs a punch at the end.

Jim/Blair, PG rated and it's here:

Comfort
The wonderfully talented [livejournal.com profile] maaaaa has written me an absolutely gorgeous Jim/Blair spanking fic for my birthday tomorrow. It's just... oh, so good.

Go, shoo, read, if it's your kink (and even if it isn't because it's just so sweet and fun and them).

Plus; best title EVER. It's like a mini-fic all in itself :;hugs her tight::

My Leather, your Ass, Our Room
[livejournal.com profile] wesleysgirl is one of my favorite writers and always finds a way to make the characters come alive. This is her second TS fic (I hope not her last!), written for [livejournal.com profile] ponders_life for a charity request, and it's 5,000 words of pure story; angst, action, a crossover, and a happy ending, with a Jim and Blair I just love.

Time to Find You
[livejournal.com profile] t_verano just posted a 6,000 word Jim/Blair R rated fic as her Moonridge story for [livejournal.com profile] patk.

I beta'd it so I already know how good it is ::grin:: Love her Blair inner voice so very much.

Reaction
[livejournal.com profile] callistosh65 has Jim and Blair answering a meme here and it's just spot on perfect voices and adorable :;squishes it tight::

[livejournal.com profile] banbury made a vid for me! And it's just the perfect Jim sentiment and view on things.

Link is in this post here:

Thank you so much! ::hugs:: I have a huge smile on my face now.
Busy.

We got the tree, it's started snowing (big storm forecast for tonight), and we have food, fire logs, candles and PoTC3 unless the power goes out.

Will try and reply to email but busybusybusy with houseguests and holiday preparations and I'm trying to work on the last part of Point of Contact which has now broken the 100,000 word count. This last part is only at 1,400 though, so...

Eep, nearly six and haven't started supper...

Today's long fic in the [livejournal.com profile] ts_secret_santa is pure hotness for anyone who needs warming up. Jim/Blair, NC17. Loved it.

I signed up for the fic exchange at [livejournal.com profile] ts_secret_santa and I'm having fun writing for the prompt days there, too, but I almost forgot that I was going to get a fic written for me! Yes, I know. I'm a dork.

It just got posted and you can read it here:

The Dark Side of the Moon J/B NC17.

I asked for something from Jim's past as a soldier to come up in the present and this is a great exploration of that and very plausible, too. There's some yummy smut, a nicely snarky Jim and Blair, an OC I really took to, and whoever wrote it for me, thank you so much! :;hugs::

I woke up to snow fluttering down, no school as it's one of the days they're doing parent/teacher interviews, and Lauren coughing. She's going to the doctor this afternoon so hopefully he'll give her something that works, poor sweetie. I'm looking after one of her friends for the day so instead of her moping around looking bored and whining, there is just the faint distant squeak of happy voices from the basement as she plays. And mothers wonder why I never mind their kids coming over :-)

I just saw this manip on [livejournal.com profile] magnavox_23's LJ and melted my brain. So hot... it's Daniel/Vala but my first thought was Wesley and Faith from Secretary which had me all nostalgic.

[livejournal.com profile] wesleysgirl and I are in the throes of editing the third John/Nick novel, now called 'Waking the Dead'. It was lovely writing those two again and so much fun to be tagging; unbelievably fast way of working.

I have most of my Christmas presents bought AND wrapped; very luckily intercepted a confirmation email last night just before David sat down at the computer that spelled out one of his Christmas presents in the header. Spoilery emails!! Tell Santa!

So very chuffed here: [livejournal.com profile] gilded_kage has written a short poem based around the last chapter of Point of Contact. So very good and it's like a fic in miniature with the gorgeous images it evokes.

The Right Clothes

Thank you so much, [livejournal.com profile] gilded_kage! :;hugs you::
