[livejournal.com profile] carodee writes Jim dark, dark, dark sometimes; with a humorous edge, sometimes, sure, as in her Insatiable series, but in the Controlverse, there's nothing but the darkness, swamping both Jim and Blair and it's car crash compelling, can't look away, stuff.

She's just added a new fic to the 'verse:

Lunch Break, and definitely read the warnings, but if you already know this verse, you'll know what to expect.

I had the pleasure of beta reading it and I'm so taken with the way she's slowly revealing Jim's motivations. He's still doing unforgivable stuff to Blair but I'd say of the two of them, Jim's more the victim and more the one broken beyond repair than Blair, no matter what Blair's suffering.

It's intense and very different from the usual Jim/Blair, but it has at its core, as most fics in this fandom do, the conviction that these two are bound together, for whatever reason, endlessly orbiting each other, unable to break away.

In this 'verse, that's literal.

ETA Caro's posted a timeline with links to all the fics in the 'verse here.

My big external hard drive, the 500GB one, is failing. It keeps flickering on and off and making sad noises. We've checked all the cables (David got out his voltmeter and did it properly) and then, as he builds SPACE SHIPS, for heaven's sake, I made him take it apart and peek inside.

When that didn't work, I resorted to the oldie of shoving it in the freezer overnight and managed to get enough juice to move a few files over to the already crammed smaller 250 GB drive.

This drive had about 20 seasons of stuff on it :;sigh:; We'll have to buy a new one and hope that we can transfer some stuff, but it's already making wheezy noises and slowing right down as it heats up again.

Our older one, an Acom, is fine; this one's IvoMagic and as it's barely 2 years old, I'm not happy that it's broken. Money is an object so we can't splash out on a 1TB one ::drools:: but $100 or so should get us another 500GB one, I guess.

Anyone got recs for reliable ones?

Thank you to all who offered sympathy and suggestions. The old one is back in the freezer in hopes that I can swap a few more files over but David took pity on my frazzled state and armed with your suggestions, nipped into Future Shop and picked up a 500GB Western Digital My Book to go with the 250 GB one we have that's still working. The computer itself has 80GB which is nowhere near enough.

Heh, and now I'm remembering our first computer in 1997, which had a gigantic 4 GB hardrive.

Heh. Heheheh.
