Now I understand that phrase, oh, so well.
I'm not a very home-makery type of person. I decorate and it all looks kind of, well, homemade, but what the heck, I keep trying. So last year, I discovered these peel off, stick on things from Winners that you can keep moving around on a wall with no problem. L has some in her bedroom and they look great.
Winners had a Christmas themed one, so I got it and after a few minutes trying to piece together the individual branches to look like the picture, I handed the project over to Eleanor (far more artistic than me) and this was the pleasing, reusable, no mess result:

Flushed with success, I bought some more from Winners, this time mirrored reindeer. Excited, as snowflakes fluttered down, L and I experimented with them on a kitchen window. I put one on and said, hmm, maybe we can try it over --
It wouldn't come off. These were different, hard, not thin film, sticky not peelable. Thank God I put them on a window not a wall.
Panicking, I tried to get the reindeer off and broke his two front legs.
I'M SORRY, OKAY?
Realizing that I was going to need a blowtorch to remove them, or possibly just buy a new window, or never take them down, like the Christmas lights over the garage, I stuck the rest on as well. What the hell.
ETA I got the packaging out and read the instructions for removal (small letters, not visible from the outside.) It says 'Slowly and carefully remove mirrors from applied surface.'
That's it? ::boggles:;
