Lauren's whining about doing Kumon (after school tuition in maths for her; really improved her grades, though it's pricey) reached epic proportions so I photocopied her worksheet and sat down to race her. If she beat my errors, she got a packet of chewing gum (Very Special Treat).
So there I was, first thing in the morning, tackling 80 long division sums (she doesn't take it to decimals; whole numbers and a remainder). She's up to sums like 450 divided by 48.
You'll be pleased to know that I finished first with six errors and she got 21.
I'm not gloating exactly (so am) but considering she'd been steadfastly refusing to listen to my tips, hints, and ways to do it, it was kind of satisfying....
We'll see if tomorrow she actually LISTENS.
I have to say though, it was one hell of a slog. Midway, I was bored stiff and my brain was fizzing gently.
