David just got driven off to the airport for a business trip in England (back Thursday) and I'm heaving a sigh of relief that we took the car (my car) out this morning because that was how we found out it wouldn't start.

We tried to jump start it and nothing happened -- because smoke was pouring off the cables and they set on fire.

Yes.

A new battery has fixed the problem, but I was on pins. Sure, I could've used David's Saab, but it's a stick shift and after 15 years of driving an automatic, fifteen years of driving a stick shift in the UK have vanished from my skill set.

David, who goes between cars without caring, does not get this.

He's going to see my mum tomorrow since his hotel is 90 mins from her and he can't check in until three so it's the perfect place to go.

I forgot to say I went to see Magic Mike with [personal profile] autobadgirl and her sister. Being out at night was strangely exciting. I just don't do that. Memo to self; do that more.

Matt Bomer had about one line, which was disappointing, but I still enjoyed it. Less raunchy than I expected by far, way more plot, mostly a tepid romance, but the dancing was hot.

More interesting was the audience; full theater, and we only spotted three men. Lots of catcalls and laughter, far more relaxed than normal.

And, as ever, someone a few rows down who texted throughout, her screen bright as a star going nova,

Wtf?

Why pay ten bucks then don't watch the movie?

My garden is crunchy and yellow and dead. The veggies are okay, but the flowers and grass? No.

The little plastic labels saying what the flowers are look like tombstones.

It hit 40 C humidex yesterday; hotter than where we're going in Florida. Wow.
