Got back and as on the way out, a t-storm on Toronto the day before meant we left an hour later so we got home at three a.m. I woke at nine so i feel spaced-out but I'll recover I'm sure ::sips cocktail::
We had a wonderful time and got only slightly burned on the back of our necks which isn't bad considering the extreme weather and the fact we swam for hours every day on various beaches. By the end we were all swimming with T-shirts on over our swimsuits and I had the girls with silk scarves around their necks. Someone needs to invent a swimsuit with a polo neck, darn it.
We checked out at ten and the flight wasn't until 9.30 that night so we drove down the Keys as far as we could before turning north and heading for Ft Lauderdale airport. Not impressed. Key Largo was tacky and the rest was okay but not as nice as Estero island.
We saw manatees on Sanibel! And more alligators, dolphins off the pier at Naples, turtles, horseshoe crabs, loads of birds, pelicans, egrets, herons...
Last night, we ate at Doc Fords, a restaurant (one on Sanibel, one at Ft Myers beach) owned by an author, whose books are set in the area, Randy Wayne White. Got a couple out of the library to try. Seem like Dirk Pitt style.
And! The plane had The Avengers on the flight back!!! Eleanor and I fist-bumped with glee, then prayed the plane didn't land before the movie finished (only just made it).
So now I'm all caught up!
