After his recent letter about not silencing people standing up for gay rights (and he did another replying to an idiot lawyer who claimed gay marriage would affect his marriage and pretty much bring about the end of civilization) Kluwe did a photo shoot for Out.

Looking good.

Hot, into SF, articulate, intelligent and passionate...more men like him, less men like the ones his letters are addressed to, please.

And this letter, calm, a little sad, to a friend and fellow football player who came out against gay marriage is brilliant.

Just signal-boosting here.

Rachel Haimowitz and Heidi Belleau have a new m/m work out from Riptide Publishers called The Flesh Cartel. It's being published as a serial.

It's violent and dark, but, as you'd expect from this duo, well-written and compelling.

Amazon have pulled it, calling it pornography.

Because of course, every book they sell could be read aloud to kindergarten children without raising an eyebrow.

I've written to their Customer Support to voice my objections. This is ridiculous. Yes, the book's not going to be for everyone. It's non-con, forced incest, kidnapping, violence. That's not grounds for pulling it. That's a reason for a reader to note the warnings and move on if they so choose.

I have a feeling it's the fact that it's gay fiction that's at the heart of this censorship rather than the content.

ETA

Just looked at their guidelines.

Pornography
We don't accept pornography or offensive depictions of graphic sexual acts.

Offensive Content
What we deem offensive is probably about what you would expect.

Jaw is on the floor at that second one. Uh, how is that a guideline? More of a flip comment, content-free.

My first muffins in the new oven and they were so good, especially warm with a dab of butter (all gone now...partly because when the recipe says 12, I usually get 6. My muffin tin must be giant-sized or something).

Muffins are so darn easy. I'm in love. I keep making different sorts, hurling in fruit or chocolate or zest with a merry tralala.

I tweaked the recipe a bit, swapping the butter for 3 fl oz of veggie oil and adding a teaspoon of ginger and some chopped crystallized ginger. I used the end of a tub of honey and it really helped to heat it in the microwave to make it more liquid.

http://www.food.com/recipe/honey-muffins-81982

2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg

Directions:

1
In a large mixing bowl, add the first 6 ingredients; stir to combine.
2
In another bowl, add the honey, milk, butter, and egg; whisk to combine and until mixture is smooth.
3
Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients.
4
Fold in just until moistened (do not overmix).
5
Pour batter into 12 muffin tins that have been lightly buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray.
6
Bake at 400° for about 20 minutes or until pick comes out clean.
7
Cool in pan on a wire rack before turning out of pan.

Wow.

This time it's me reminding me that it's new Supernatural tonight, Yay. I've dropped a lot of shows this fall out of sheer ennui, but never this one.

I have to pick E up at 8.30, though. She's going to her first life drawing class at the local arts center. She needs some nude sketches for her portfolio in connection with her application to Sheridan for next year and they run a drop-in class, $10 for two hours, which seems very reasonable.

E's a tiny bit freaked but more at the idea of taking two hours to draw anything, than the whole naked bodies deal. She thinks she can get what she needs in ten minutes :;shakes head:;
