When we became citizens this year we were given a one year pass that lets us in to virtually all parks, museums and galleries in Canada (how cool is that?) and so we decided to use it this March Break.

We thought the ROM would be packed, so we drove into the city and went to the art gallery (for free! yay!).

I felt so privileged to see the paintings and sculptures and it was totally uncrowded and peaceful. At one point, I was in a small room with a Degas, a Picasso, a Chagall and a Modigliani.

Then I was face to face with Rubens' Massacre of the Innocents, which, harrowing though the subject matter was, is still stunning. It was bought in 2002 by the Thomson family for $117 million dollars and donated to the gallery in 2008.

Who has that much money to spend and then give away? Wow :;blinks:;

Very interesting, inspiring day. Even if David made us walk up this stunning spiral staircase -- five flights -- and my legs practically gave way....
