Last night, we drove into Toronto with Lauren to go to a talk given by Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson books. The final one in his Heroes of Olympus series just came out and you could buy a regular ticket (David and me) or one that got you a pre-signed copy (Lauren). Huge line up; it was in a church on Bloor that seated 1000) but we got in and everyone also got a free T-shirt and wrist band.

He was a funny man; former teacher from Austin, Texas, had slides behind him and told the story of his life and how he came to write the books, very witty, with the crowd roaring and clapping. Like being at a rock concert :-)

Brat of a boy and his grandmother sitting next to us though. Won't go into details but grr. Why do people let children behave so badly and in such an entitled way? He was about nine; old enough to know better, and she certainly was.

He answered questions from a bunch on cards that people had handed in and one was very nice; an LGBT reader thanking him for including a main gay character. That got a lot of applause. Lauren told me some parents had freaked out about it on his Twitter (https://twitter.com/camphalfblood) and he was baffled by them.

Enjoyed the night, even though I've only read the first two books...

Just looked at his twitter and this made me smile:

A few ppl wanted longer battle scenes. Feel free to paste in this line as many times as desired: "Percy swung his sword. The giant dodged."
