Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating (and a special hug to [livejournal.com profile] tx_cronopio whose day has had a sucky start ::snuggles::)

And the Happiest of Birthdays to the ever-lovely, [livejournal.com profile] elementalv! Your posts are always ones I look forward to and I'm so happy to know you. Hope today is all a birthday should be ::much love::

David and I have been reading a series our friend brought back from England and enjoying it a lot. Fantasy/SF, think there are at least 4, but we only have the first three. There's a surreal, Douglas Adams feel to them, except not... oh, they're hard to describe.

There's this woman, Thursday Next, and she lives in a world like ours but not, where literature is a defining influence. The first book is 'The Eyre Affair' where someone goes into Jane Eyre, kidnaps Jane, and the original ending of Jane going to India (the subtlety of that was lost on David who didn't realise that's not how it ends ;-)) is affected.

It's funny, engaging, and very, very different.

The books are written by Jasper Fforde: The Eyre Affair, Lost in a Good Book, The Well of Lost plots and Something Rotten.

Oh, I just checked him on Amazon and there are even more. Whee. I like finding new authors who aren't, so I have a lot to go at.
