And on an unconnected note; remember Jake from the creative newsgroup? The one who thought most straight men wouldn't dye their hair blond and slashing was character bashing and similar absurdities? (I think they're absurd anyway). He's been fairly reasonable recently; even gave me some approving f/b on a (non slash) fic. Then suddenly, when someone said a Mary Sue was as bad a character bashing as any genre, he came up with this;

Something else occurred to me since the last time I posted on this
subject. I think most of the het females who are heavily into m/m slash
tend towards misandry, a form of bigotry that gets almost no attention,
especially compared to its counterpart, misogyny.

Think about it. Gay males being into m/m slash makes perfect sense but
what's the payoff for het females? I know most of the het males heavily
into lesbian porn don't give a damn about whether the women involved are
enjoying themselves; they're just catering to their schoolboy fantasies
of having two chicks at once. There's a definite element of misogyny in
males who get off on lesbian sex. Am I supposed to believe there's no
misandry in the opposite situation? You don't see a lot of het females
into Andrew slash. Too obvious. No, far better to take het male canon
characters and "gay them up." Far more satisfying on a humiliation
level.

Yeah, I think 'character bashing' describes what's happening with OOC
sexuality.
