Well, no, not really. Although it would be SO much fun if it did. I can just see Matey taking over in the infirmary and scolding Sheppard for getting wet feet and keeping him in bed with a jigsaw to do, and the prefects getting up charades and a bake sale for the homeless Athosians. And I'm sure they'd find somewhere to walk to with a cliff to fall over...

I'm rereading the CS books for the umpteenth time, you see, and finding that by far the best ones are with an adversary; a new matron or headmistress who clashes with the school, a rebellious pupil, a rival school...

What do we have in Atlantis now that Woolsey has proven to be fairly tame and a woolly baa-lamb? The Genii are a spent force, the Wraith are yawnworthily easy to kill these days and Michael's gone for a bit, but leaving those aside, there's no one IN the city who's at all abrasive.

I miss Bates and Kavanagh or the acerbic version of Caldwell.

It's unlikely that everyone in the city would get on well and some people would be too necessary to send home. I want some dissent in the civilian ranks, some challenging of the status quo... some nod to the fact that people en masse get tetchy and grumpy.

Going back to the books, it's amusing, in a jaw-dropped way, to read the scenes where the teachers meet up in the staff room and instantly light up ciggies and smoke like chimneys. Considering that the school's connected to a TB sanatorium and health is paramount with people kept in bed for days for very minor ailments, it's proof positive that in the thirties smoking wasn't seen as a danger, I guess.
