As I write this, Lauren's playing a song off the Diamond Castle Barbie movie called 'Connected'. The refrain is 'I feel connected...and everything is going to be all right.'
I feel that way today, as I did last night, sitting on my couch, tears welling up as I listened to Obama's speech.
As he said, it's not a change, not yet; that's to be worked for over the coming years, but it's one hell of a start and a victory.
And then this morning, I sat with Lauren on that couch and told her about Rosa Parks to try and make her see what this meant. I don't know if it sank in, but I hope she remembers what happened on her eighth birthday, which was yesterday.
