Okay, I printed off Becky's transcript and read it side by side with the script to see what the changes were.
First thoughts; masses of trivial one; words said out of order, additional ones added on screen or missed off.
The two big scenes; the conversation in the truck and the confrontation after Incacha's death are oddly bloodless and short in the script with no written directions at all. So the pushing and hands on of the fight was totally unscripted. Which disappointed me at first but then not so much as I realized how much life RB, GM and perhaps the director breathed into the scenes.
There are a handful of nice moments that were missed and we get to discover the names of the Chopec warriors; Ali, Moi, Nanto, Amo...
The script has Joel's last name as 'Taggert'. It's always 'the Sentinel' as an alternative to 'Jim' or 'Ellison' which bugs me in fic :;g::.
Couple of new bits:
After they find the first body in the park:
Sandburg: I remember you told me when the Chopec first took you in, your flashlight made them believe you were a spirit from the sun.
Ellison: Until the batteries died.
When Jim and Blair go to the office, the reason Blair stays outside (and meets up with Janet) is because of this:
Sandburg begins to follow Ellison into the office, but the detective stops him for a few quiet words.
Ellison: I better handle this one alone.
Sandburg: What's the problem?
Ellison (gesturing to Sandburg's clothes). It's your kit, chief. I don't want to scare him off.
Sandburg (checking his "kit") Oh. Right. Go ahead, I'll hang here.
Then he sees Janet and we have this missing bit along with Blair's adorably goofy and shy way of flirting as a teenager:
Janet: Thanks...but ripped jeans or a business suit, underneath I'm still the same person.
Sandburg: Sorry I never found that out first hand.
Janet (surprised) Really? I never thought you were interested.
Sandburg: Are you serious?
Janet: I wish you'd given me a sign.
Sandburg: What about the Maori fertility necklace I have you at your birthday party?
Janet: Is that what that was? We could've had a lot of fum.
Sandburg (hopefully) Still could.
Janet: I don't think so...(shows him diamond ring). Engaged.
Sandburg's attitude does an immediate one-eighty.
Sandburg: So, listen, you must have a bead on Cyclops' operations in Peru. maybe you could help us with our investigation.
And they shake hands, not hug, in the script.
When Incacha and Blair meet we get an exact translation of Incacha's words, interesting to contrast with what Jim actually says in script and on screen:
Hands over hearts, Incacha and Sandburg lower their hands, palms up, by way of a greeting. Ellison is between them.
Incacha (in Chopec) I sense you have become shaman to Enqueri in the Great Village.
Sandburg: I think I picked up "shaman" and "great village". But what's "Enqueri"?
Ellison: Enqueri's my Chopec name...He wonders if you're my spiritual guide here in the city.
When Joel brings in the mail Janet sent to Blair via the station, Jim rips it open. That's always struck me as being odd and in the script we get a priceless line from Simon:
"You two open each other's mail now?"
More later...
