Because this is Regency Week (shush...don't tell me it isn't, I'm harmless in my delusions) and because I mentioned this idea casually to [livejournal.com profile] dutchbuffy2305 here's your chance to see if you can tell Stork from butter. Which will mean nothing to all younger, non English people but I suppose you can guess what I mean ::grin. Two passages; if you know the answer for certain, you can still vote, but it's more fun if you don't and are really guessing based on a vague familiarity with either author. I've blanked out names and such. I'm totally clueless about what the result will be so it should be fun. Thanks to anyone who plays ::hugs::

One.
Now that her brother had accorded her his permission to marry the man of her choice she discovered that her feeling for __ had been no more than the infatuation __ had always thought it. Opposition had fostered it, leading her into the fatal error of almost publicly announcing her unalterable determination to marry __ or no one. __ , so superior to __ in every way, had accepted her rejection of his suit, and had turned his attention elsewhere: and whatever unacknowleged hope she might have cherished of seeing his affections reanimate towards her must now be quite at an end. To confess to __ that he had been right from the start, and she most miserably mistaken, was impossible. She had gone too far; nothing now remained to her but to accept the fate she had insisted on bringing upon herself; and, for pride's sake, to show a smiling face to the world.

Two
__ was heavy in eye as well as figure but by no means indisposed to talk; and while the other four were chiefly engaged together, he evidently felt it no penance to have a fine young woman next to him, requiring in common politeness some attention, as his brother, who felt the decided want of some motive for action, some powerful object of animation for him, observed with considerable pleasure. Such was the influence of youth and bloom that he began even to make a sort of apology for having a fire.
