So, the Halloween party. Gosh, it seems like a long time ago, maybe because I've been super industrious and cleared away all the Halloween decorations (apart from the candy mountain).
There were about 18 of us and it went on til around two in the morning (SO LATE, yay. I felt like a teenager again. When you have kids, parties tend to end early; even if they're not with you, you have to get back for the babysitter. Now we've reached a point where those of us with kids, well, they're old enough to babysit, so all is well. E and L slept over at the house of one of our guests which all worked out nicely.)
We had masses too much food, as ever. I panic there won't be enough and always make too much, but after thinking no one was going to make any inroads on it, suddenly quite a bit went, which made me happy. I made a skeleton out of veggies (David and April turned it NC17 with an asparagus spear...) and I soaked the pumpkin seeds in red food coloring and scattered them over the table like blood drops. The pumpkins were very cool; every year, after the night itself, we toss them onto the veggie patch to mulch down. Last year a seed must've sprouted because from nowhere, we had three pumpkins. Free! Like magic! How clever is that? I kept looking at them and prodding them. All that orange-y goodness from one tiny seed. incredible.
People made a real effort with their costumes and everyone looked fantastic.
autobadgirl, you were a total hit! Everyone said how lovely you and J were. I got sick and tired of my waist-length wig and went upstairs and cut a foot off it. Then moulted everywhere... By the end of the night, I'd lost it completely and gone back to being blonde :-)
So, much fun was had and on Thursday, L's birthday, Mum arrives from England to stay with us for a few weeks, which we're all so glad about.
