I was in our local antique market and saw a Hawaii Five-0 tie in book from 1969. It's not worth anything; it's on Amazon, used, here but I couldn't resist :-)
And although it's probably not how they intended it to be read, I got a slashy glow from the start when a teenager tourist (Tommy) and a local boy (Jerry)set the mystery off when they watch a car go plummeting over a cliff on a final car ride together. It's Tommy's last day and he's hating having to leave the island and Jerry. They both love the colors of the water, and Tommy swears he'll come back to stay which gets him a warm smile from Jerry. And this is how they met:
"Then I bump into you on Aa Moana Beach and we click. Like that. And you show me the real Hawaiian picture."
Then Jerry tells him that he has to be sure to write and Tommy promises. Okay, I'm loving these two already :-)
The book itself is very basic, aimed at young teenaged boys, I guess, lots of spy stuff and no one swearing or getting violent on the page.
