Woke up to find my web page is down until Monday. Too many visitors. After I blithely said on chat last night that they were always warning me and never doing anything, this is particularly ironic. Ha. Ha. See? Funny, too.
It won't even let me upload an icon, which wouldn't even have been going to that page as such. It won't let me even access it to make any changes. And when I called customer service I got someone I wanted to slap. He was pathetic. Absolutely, utterly pathetic. Sounded about sixteen, too; aren't kids supposed to be all brill at this stuff? It went something like this;
'Hi, my webpage has been closed due to excessive b/w use, is there someone I can talk to about it?'
'I'm sorry?'
(So you should be!) 'My web page.'
"Can I have your phone number?'
(Jane reels off ID details). 'What seems to be the problem?'
(you've taken my baby away) 'My web page is down. You know; the one I get free with my account. There's a note saying the bandwith ..'
'Let me just check if your modem is working.'
'What? Well, actually it has been a bit - no! It's nothing to do with that. I'm only allowed so many -'
'I know all about that, madam.'
(Really? Could have fooled me.) Long spiel about being responsible, not uploading more than 300MB..
'Don't you mean downloading?'
'Yes, that too.'
'Fine. So is there anyone who can advise me on how to prevent this happening again?'
'?'
'Do you actually know anything about web pages?'
'Not really' (exact words)
'Can you pass me on to someone who does? Because it's just been a normal month and I don't want this to happen again. By the way, what size does it say my page is?'
'What?'
'Does it say how much much I'm using of my 10MB?'
'You'll just have to wait until the start of the next calendar..'
'Thank you' (gritted teeth, enamel flaking, slams phone down).
This is just Too Much. I spend hours playing with it, trying to get the size down, I have about 6 photos, that's all...it's tiny, it really is ::sniffles pathetically::
ETA; Got a supervisor; very nice man called Adam. Had some ideas but it turns out I was doing it all alright anyway; anything he suggested, I was doing. Basically, it's just for people who get a few family and friends toddling over to look at it. I need something bigger and that costs vast amounts of money as I'd have to move to business solutions. I asked if I could stay residential and pay just a tiny bit more for a larger transfer; 500MB say, and he gave a hollow laugh and said I wasn't the first person to ask that. If there's a demand, why don't they set up a second level of residential services to meet that demand? I don't mind paying something but over $80 a month? No way.
