The ever adorable
mahaliem decided to show that man how it's done and wrote a proper Jane inspired badfic to cheer me up. ::eyes it wistfully:: I want a sequel...I'm in bed with Giles. There is no badness here. What is this thing you call 'Mary Sue' any way?
A Bad Fic for Jane, Inspired by Jane, Starring Jane
"Jane, where have you put my latest issue of Librarian's Gazette?"
Lounging on soft sheets, Jane pointed to the nightstand next to the bed. "It's over there, Giles. Underneath the whips, handcuffs, and chains."
Giles spent several minutes moving things aside, and then crossed his arms across his bare chest in exasperation. "I still don't see it."
"Keep looking. I know I saw it there before Spike came over. I bet the lubes and oils we used are on top of it."
After pushing a variety of exotic oils in a heap onto the floor, the magazine had still not been found.
"Perhaps Wesley took it," Jane suggested. "I could've sworn he was reading something when he went to the kitchen to fetch the whipped cream and syrup."
A moment later she heard a cry of triumph and Giles returned to the bedroom with the magazine in hand. "Wesley must have put it down next to the telly when he helped Angel spank Xander as they watched porn."
"The store bought porn or our home made porn?"
"Why the home made, naturally."
Giles fluffed up the pillows and eased down next to Jane.
"What did you want to read so badly?" she asked.
"There's an article about proposed changes to the Dewey Decimal system. I believe it gets quite heated."
Jane moaned and moved closer to him. "That's not the only thing heated around here, Giles. You know what it does to me when you talk librarian."
The End (Yes, you can now open your eyes, it's over.)
I could have been the first on my flist to post about Shells as I trampled David into the carpet and dashed straight for the computer as the credits rolled. then I decided, no, I wanted to watch it again, so I did that instead.
Loved it.
Exciting, brilliant dialogue, cool effects and the acting, Good Lord, the acting...This wasn't Fred in a costume; this was a whole new character and I loved her. To make her not evil, well, it's a slight riff on the Jasmine thing, but Jasmine was deliberately plotting and she ate people and took away their free will, even though she loved them, or thought she did.
Illyria is different. You can't hate her. She did nothing out of malice. To her we're ants, a pestilence, a plague, alien usurpers. Millions of years...and Wolf, Ram and Hart were around back then? Cool. The vulnerability she displayed was heartbreaking and that she got my on side in the space of an episode is a tribute to AA's acting and the writing.
The scene where she looked out over her army, the desolation and decay, brought back so many memories from children's books; Charn and Jadis in The Magican's Nephew - and E Nesbit's books where great civilisations are brought to dust and people from the past are brought to our world and see it through wondering, terrified eyes. It was perfect, achingly nostalgic and this was such a personal reaction that I'm going to shut up now, as it's impossible to convey.
Wes. Never seen him act better. That scene where Angel slammed him against a wall and Angel's hands went from gripping his shoulders to resting against him gently as Wes broke down...God, it killed me. And his barely audible 'yes' to illyria...sent shivers all over me. Understated, passionate, perfect.
And the subtle way we found out Gunn wasn't so much an innocent victim as we thought? Beautifully done and makes Wes' anger easier to excuse. It reminded me, well, yes, obviously the Connor deal, but also of Xander in OMWF; knowing the whole time that he'd caused it, but keeping quiet, even when people were in danger. Buffy nearly died because he didn't speak up. Gunn knew someone would die. Just hoped it was someone not in his circle. That's despicable. Oh, Gunn...poor, poor Gunn.
One quibble; it was better second time around, but I loathed the musical montage at the end. Far more chilling to have shown the Fred bit against silence and though it worked really well at the end of Tabula Rasa, here it felt cheesy.
And every episode I scream or whimper, in my best Cindy Lou Who voice, 'Why are you taking my show away, why?'
