I'm looking at free apps for David's Playbook. Some are okay, some are JUST SILLY. I mean, they're up there with the Aquarium Channel.

One measures acceleration -- on a ROLLERCOASTER. Yes, because I would totally take my expensive gadget high up in the air and then look at it as I was whirled hither and yon, screaming.

The other -- and I cannot get over this one -- turns the screen into a picture of a heating element like you'd have on a stove top so you can decide where one would look good on your kitchen surface.

It warns you that you can't actually cook on it.

I'm boggled.

It warns you that you can't actually cook on it.

Reads. Jaw drops. Reads again. Starts laughing. Five minuters later mops eyes, looks at it again and starts laughing again. Adds to the list of crazy 'warnings' I've come across over the years.

Can't quite make up my mind whether those 'warnings' are because they've had a complaint or because they just want to made certain they're covered if they do.

Shakes head sadly.

Talking about Titanic... When it first came out I read somewhere about a woman who went to see it with a friend who said something about the way the ship sank. Her response? "I didn't want to know anything about it! You've ruined it for me!"

Though I will never understand what some people see as a spoiler. Season 6 of SG1 was shown here before it was shown in America - don't ask me why - and I made a passing comment on one of the lists on the newly-cast Corin Nem-can't-quite-remember-his-name, saying I hadn't thought him good in the part. It had been no secret that the guy was being cast, but I got a slap on the wrist from someone who considered the comment a major spoiler. The husband of a friend made a similar "You've ruined it for me!" comment on being told a certain actor had been cast in a movie he was going to see. I can understand not wanting to know how the story develops/ends, but to consider knowing what actors are in it is a major enough spoiler to ruin it?

Me? I jump on spoilers with cries of glee. I look at the the end of a story before I'll commit to reading it, to make sure it ends at a destination I'm happy to reach. One reason I don't watch many movies. I used to go to our local repertory theatre a lot, when I still lived in Dundee, and when a new play was announced I'd go to the local library, that had a very good drama section, to see if it had a copy of the play; often it did, I'd borrow it and read it before I went to see it.

If I know the story I don't have to worry about the plot; I can enjoy the way the writer uses words to develop her story, nuances in the acting/directing... I can understand, academically, people who read for the plot; I can't understand the people who'll buy a book, read it once, then give it to the local charity shop because now they know what happens they'll never read it again.

I don't like being spoiled for plot twists

I have a fairly serious suspense squick. Wouldn't be the first time I've switched something off halfway through because it hit a level of suspense that I couldn't take - not when I didn't know what was going to happen. I never watched X-Files, for example, because a friend warned me it was full of suspense.
