Last night, I posted about a chapter of the RWA running a writing competition and changing their policy of years to ban same-sex romances. Plenty of us said, well, get new judges then.

Wouldn't work.

As seen on this blog here, when Larissa wrote to the chapter to offer a group of people willing to judge all and any books, the group told her

“Thank you, Larissa, but it was never a lack of judges that made our determination. It was that the majority of our members were uncomfortable with being a contest that takes same-sex entries.”

A petition to the Romance Writers of America is here.

Thanks for the update. I Please keep us updated on new developments in this.
I'm still appalled by the idea that they no longer consider LGBT romance to be appropriate. Guess they didn't get the memo that love is love.

I was going to say that they should change their name to Heterosexual Romance Writers of America, but then it would be confusing as to whether the romances or the writers were heterosexual. So maybe a hyphen. Or maybe American Writers of Heterosexual Romance.

Why doesn't someone just suggest that they ban any explicit sex scenes - romance, but stop outside the bedroom door? It would make as much sense.

Is it too awfully cynical that this doesn't really surprise me? Just pisses me off. Well, they can just go fuck themselves. =|
