My birthday books from the UK Amazon arrived. So I had to pay $8 + to retrieve them from the post office. Well, gee, I'm AWFULLY SORRY I didn't buy Canadian when I had a freaking book token that I couldn't spend anywhere else. And $5 handling charge? Perfectly reasonable for opening a box and checking it contained BOOKS except the box wasn't opened and had Amazon plastered all over it and...I'm so sick of them doing this to me. The last time was when Alexei Panshin kindly sent me two of his books as a present, and I got charged duty. Sheesh.

The can of cider is making my fingers type fast but not very acurately. Oh, well. Yay Blackthorn.

I ordered two Lauren Henderson's, two Jim Butcher's and the latest Buffy book because it had Spike in it; Nancy Holder's 'Blood and Fog'. I started to write about it, realised it's spoilery for the book (marginally) and so I'll tag it. Am I the only one who has to cut and paste every frigging time I use a LJ tag because I can't remember them?

Only part way through but huh. It's set in S6 after Tab Ras. in fact...it's set after S/B start bonking. Pause for hushed breath. Yes, the Slayer and Spike are so close that at one point she's described as his 'love slave'by a faery folk person. She hates it of course, to the point of almost throwing up. I know, I know...I think of being in helpless lust thrall to Spike and it's all I can do to make it to the nearest loo in time too. Not. Well...OK, seriously, yes, it wouldn't be nice but...eh.

The bit that had my hackles rising was this

"It all came spilling back - tonight's session with Spike, the handcuffs, the pain. The hurting and the writhing and the begging. And he loved it. He loved all of it, while she _needed_ it. The way she clung to him, pleading, whispering, and moaning about how she had to have him or she wouldn't...she wouldn't be anything."

Ack. Say _what_? Suddenly the Buffy novels are all NC 17? Yes, the cuffs were there but Spike liked hurting Buffy? We're supposed to think that? He was volatile, he was unpredictable, he was downright crude at times...but I think if Buffy had given him any hint she wanted tenderness, he'd have been making with the roses and the serenading.

And Willow? So addicted to the magic. Physically, mentally craving it. This book is party line all the way.

And since I started writing, oh, boy, now and then I flip out of it and start beta reading and moving commas in my head. Weird.

I had more to say but I'm tired. Don't let the beddy bugs bite.
