We just signed up for Netflix with the sole purpose of mainlining the background to The Avengers before our first free month ends so we can actually watch the movie at some point.

David's seen lots of them on plane trips, so we never rented them, but tonight we watched Thor.

So what's next? Iron man 1 and 2, Captain America...anything else?

Iron Man 1 and 2, Captain America, and....

the movie called THOR

and the movie of Hulk .. the one with Liv Tyler as Betty. Not the one directed by Ang Lee.

That's the back story.

enjoy!!!!!

Seriously, you can watch it now, then. I think in terms of back story the Thor movie was most important.

The other movies don't directly impact the plot of Avengers unless you are totally unfamiliar with the characters of Capt. America and Iron Man and Hulk.

I enjoyed the first two Iron Man movies very much (except for moments of Feminism Fail, but in a Hollywood movie, what can you do....)

And I enjoyed Avengers very much.

I want to come over and watch them all with you! :-)

Those are the four I saw. I skipped watching the Hulk (I mean, I saw the Ang Lee one, but not the Ed Norton one which is the actual lead-in to the Avengers movie). I did skim the Wikipedia entry on it which gave me plenty enough context for Bruce backstory in the movie.

I would have advised watching in order IM1, IM2, Thor, and CA. The Thor/Loki backstory is important, and Avengers starts shortly after Captain America ends. Of course, it's no hardship to re-watch any of them. :D

Not sure whether on Netflix you'll get all the post-credit scenes. If not, you can search Avengers post-credit scenes--there's someone who has strung them all together in one vid.

Definitely make sure to search Netflix for Marvel One-Shots. If they're not there get them from YouTube. There's The Consultant, and A Funny Thing Happened on the way to Thor's Hammer. Each is ~4 minutes and both are part of the legend that's Phil Coulson. :-)

I was pleasantly surprised by the Ed Norton Hulk movie. It was panned and I expected it to be dreadful, but it wasn't!
