Okay, I cracked and read this very funny Avengers in 15 mins post here and I have a very spoilery for the movie question.



Why is Coulson in all the fic making kissy-faces with Hawkeye if he died in the movie? Wishful thinking because he's awesome? Canonical loophole? Something else?

People were writing Clint/Coulson even before the movie came out, because of the brief cameo that Clint has in Thor (clip on YouTube). I think it's a pairing that tends to hit people's competency kinks.

My understanding is that, in comics, nobody stays dead. So everybody is writing Coulson not dying or not staying dead.

The manner of death, and who it was that "confirmed" the death (Fury) led many to believe that it happened too fast and gave Fury just what he needed to spur everyone, which is how there is a loophole to allow Coulson to return.

Of course, with Norse Myth being involved anyway, and where True Warriors go... there's another angle to get him back.

Coulson was a surprise fan break out favorite. I'll not be surprised if Whedon gives in and lets him revive.

All of the above. :D There are several hints as to how Phil could not be dead, from Fury's general untrustworthiness (and we didn't see the actual death) to Tony's mentioning of Life Model Decoys in the beginning of the movie. Loopholes galore, and we love our Phil!

There was a lot of Avenger talks and panels at Con-txt. What I understand from the comic fans is that the first thing you must understand is that Nick Fury is an *asshole* and a *bastard*. Thus the doubts about him being a reliable source are because he might have been playing them all to get them pointed in the right direction. So that Coulson might be recovering somewhere.

There was also a mention of a project in the works, er, that has to do with "Nick's one good eye" -- apparently it's potentially foreshadowing for something in the comic books. One thought is that Coulson might become embedded in that. But as you can tell from my insufficient description, I really don't have the right details on that to fill in speculation.

DAMNIT. *adjusts tin hat volume* I do know that it has been said Joss was not the one who decided Coulson should "die', that it came down from the producers. Joss knew everyone would blame him for it, of course, and that actually doesn't change anything (FURY: LYING LIAR WHO LIES), but it's your random information for the day. There are actually a lot of possible loopholes, and, as a Clint/Coulson fan, I am perfectly okay with that. hearts;
