It might be premature, but I just started reading Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series (the library has an e-book bundle of the first four) and I'm LOVING them.

They're up to about number 19 so they've been around for ages; anyone else read them? They're mysteries set in Victorian times and Peabody is an independent spinster who inherits a fortune and heads off to see the world. They're just delightful. She reminds me of Sherlock in a way and the love interest is done so well.

My sister has the series, and she named her cat Ramses because of them. :D

I've been wanting to read them, but didn't want to invest money in new books. Tracking down a long series via used stores can be a chore, and then I got more interested in non-fiction and kind of forgot about it. But maybe some day.

I've been a huge fan of these books for over a decade. I named my late kitty 'de cat Bastet' when I adopted her back in '99 after Ramses favorite pet.
I hope you continue to enjoy them though I wonder if you are noticing the problems with the ebook versions that I had. I read all of mine in print and then when some of them showed up on KOBO I bought eversions as well, but some of them are riddled with typos. Hippopotamus Pool was, if I remember right, one of the worst. I keep hoping they will be cleaned up and rereleased, but if you find a problem be prepared to check out the paper versions for your sanity's sake.

i've read some of them and i loved the first one, enjoyed several more, but got a little tired of the characters after five or six books. but i'm a big fan of Elizabeth Peters (and her alter ego Barbara Michaels - mystery/occult themes). my absolute favourites are the Vicky Bliss novels, especially after she meets her nemesis, the suave jewel thief known as Sir John Smythe...

Oh, yes, I love those books! I'm probably behind by a few by now - I used to borrow them from my sister-in-law. It was funny: I struggled with the first book and was nearly ready to give up, and then suddenly it all clicked into place and I adored Amelia!

Another fan here. I really enjoy all of Elizabeth Peters' books - I first read many of them as a student, the library got them for me from all around the county. ;-)

The characters do change over time - I'm rather fond of the grown-up version of Amelia and Emerson's son Rameses. Have you met the Master Criminal yet? He hits so many of my narrative kinks it's not funny.

I love all of Elizabeth Peters' books! I was so pleased when I learned she was Barbara Michaels too because that meant there was more to read.

Amelia Peabody is adorable and so is Emerson. That first book set the stage so well. I thought Ramses was annoying at first but he really grew on me. As an adult he is delightful.

As Barbara Merts in RL she is a renowned archaeologist, so she gets all the details right.

I wish you joy in them. She's still writing so we may yet have more of the Emerson family.
