Mum pointed me at this in a town near her; some total loser had posted a photo of a mum breastfeeding her child in public and labelled it 'tramp'. Very properly annoyed, the mum organized a mass breastfeeding in the market square.

The hypocrisy surrounding breastfeeding in public coupled with things like the Sun's page 3 girl (if they still do that) never ceases to enrage me.

Breasts are sources of sexual pleasure for both genders, yes, but their primary function is to suckle the young. Using them for what they're intended is appropriate in any setting with any audience. I breastfed both my babies in public. I was never criticized or stared at in anything but an 'aww, how cute' way. Guess I was lucky.

This has been a big story over here, as you can imagine. I heard one national radio phone-in where one man insisted he didn't want to see "women's saggy boobs" while he was out shopping or at a restaurant. The caller was roundly, and rightly, derided. Thankfully, Emily has had tons of support, and not just from breastfeeding mums.

And, yes, sadly The Sun does still have page 3 girls. Dear god, that's got to come to an end some day.

I was at a Japanese steak house with an artist and friends one night while V was just 6 weeks old. I went to retire to the sitting area outside the restrooms to feed him, just to be pre-emptive. The artist, a dear man and something of a legend in his field, stopped me.

"No reason he can't eat at the table either."

So I stayed, though I admit I always used a modesty shawl with him; it was fall going into winter and I appreciated the warmth.
