TWOP closing

This is a big blow. I've been part of that community in a small way for years and get a lot of fun out of the forums and recaps. Right now, as I rewatch a Buffy episode with Lauren (last night was Surprise/Innocence: OMG!!!) I follow up by reading the recaps.

All that work, all that information and snark, gone? Ack. This makes me sad. I want to download every word and save it but that's not going to happen. Some of the recaps were dull; one recapper for Desperate Housewives made my teeth grind because she simply said what happened, nothing more, but some of the recaps were works of art.

And some just made me grin:

NO! I love TWOP. It was the first SG-1 forum I ever read, and the thread was so much fun - much easier going and enjoyable than the horror that is Gateworld.

This makes me very sad. :-(

I wonder if the existing content will continue to be archived, or if the domain will be going away entirely? It's unclear...

What I read -- which infuriated me -- is that the content will be archived -- good -- but not accessible to the public -- insane.

If you're paying to have it hosted, why not keep it open and finance it with ads for the people visiting?

I remember Mighty Big TV. TWOP was hilarious and perfect for anyone who obsesses over TV shows. I will miss them so much

I was very sad to read this but I'm glad that TWOPers seem to be spreading the word about previouslytv. As I understand it that was started by former TWOP mods or founders or something so I'm really hoping it gets the TWOP traffic.

One of the articles I read said there wasn't a whole lot of traffic anymore and I must admit that astonished me. The forums at least look as busy as they've ever been so what wasn't getting the traffic they wanted?

The whole thing just seems odd. Especially the archiving because I agree with the ads they should be able to get enough archive traffic to make it work. I, like you, re-read a lot of the recaps when I'm doing a re-watch on my favorite shows.

It's a very sad day.

To close it, well, okay, if they must, is one thing, but to render the past recaps unseeable is so wrong :-(

I've been reading in the House fandom for several years, and going through the TWoP rec lists for older fics. I'm trying to figure out how I can download the threads that are the only place some of these stories are referenced. It's the ephemeral nature of the internet - very sad....

I've been reading their recaps since MightyBigTV. :-( I saw the news in the Teen Wolf forum, and zipped over to nab my handle (ahimsa) at previously.tv.
