Finally saw The Winter Soldier last week and this drabble's been knocking around in my head since then.
Can be read as slash or friendship, either way. Not spoilery as such but it's set during the final scene.
On Your Side
Endless laps, pain tearing at him with every step. He wants to stop but he hasn't crossed the line (a circle has no end).
"On your left."
He turns and Sam's beside him, smiling, warm, alive (falling, wing wrenched off).
It's good to see him. So good, and ahead is the finish line, finally. Over it and he can rest, but his legs don't work right and he stumbles.
"On your right."
Bucky. Finally. Always.
They hook a hand under his elbows, lift him, and he's over the line and waking to a room and a smile and a space.
