Rik Mayall has died, aged 56. so sad. I loved the Young Ones, more relevant when it aired in Thatcher's Britain than it seems watching it now and he had a gift for playing an unsympathetic character, even a frankly detestable one in The New Statesman, and adding a hit of pathos. David and I own the box set of Bottom and though it wasn't his best work, he and Ade Edmonson made one hell of a team.

Blackadder wouldn't have been the same without him.

It was a jolt when I heard the news - he did iconic work in several shows, and fifty-six is young in the greater scheme of things.

So amazingly sad! I had a Young Ones poster on my wall, back in the day. 56 is way too young.

Such sad news.

Rik will always be Kevin Turvey to me. :-)

Mr jdj saw Rik twice at the Edinburgh Fringe back in the 80s. He couldn't really afford to see the show twice in the few days he was there, but he went away because it was that good.
