I got a good haul at the library; Sara Paretsky, 'Blacklist', Laurie King, 'Keeping Watch', the sequel to 'Folly', Nevada Barr,'High Country' and Linda Barnes, 'Deep Pockets'. And a giggle as I picked up a Babette Cole (Dr Xargle's Guide to Earthlets) in the kids section as E and L browsed; love her books. This one was 'Mommy Laid An Egg' and was a sex ed book for about 8 year olds I guess. Funniest bit was a double spread of postions with drawings of naked mommy and daddies. One involved a space hopper. Fine thing when your sex life is shown up as uninventive and uninspired by a children's book. Humph. ;-)
The giggles vanished when we left and found a carnation under our wipers and a card. I'd seen the people lurking in the corner of the car park with flowers and now I knew the awful truth. It was a blessed flower.
The card read, 'Hi. Thanks for giving us the chance to do something nice for you today. It's just our simple way of letting you know that God loves you - no strings attached. If we can be of further assistance please give us a call or send us a quick email to let us know. Thanks again. River City Church - church has changed since you were a kid.'
David refused to let me hand it back to them or to agree that it was intrusive and tacky. Sometimes I swear he likes winding me up.
Got back home and found the turtle was back. Yep. The one from Wednesday. The one, when I called the Animal Control people to tell them it'd gone, no need to come, they told me - with a patronising chuckle - they had no intention of collecting as they 'found their own way to the water'. Guess this one had about as good a sense of direction as I do. David put it in a cardboard box and drove it to the pond, getting a nice bug bite when he had his arms full of very much snapping turtle for his troubles.
