I just discovered in [livejournal.com profile] fanfic101's LJ that the actor who plays Steve in Coupling(UK) played Norrington in PotC.

Lengthy pause while the rest of the world says, 'Yes? And?'

This is just like last week when I found out I'd got the replacement Dumbledore wrong. It's as if I wander around and no one tells me anything. In the loopiness is a foreign concept. Do we have a lunar colony? Have we cured the common cold? What else have I missed?

Tcha. In my defence, I'd never seen Coupling when I saw Pirates, but once I did start watching it (and I tape it, I like it that much) shouldn't some bell have rung, some light dawn? I blame the wig. If Buffy had been filmed in strict chronological order (starting with the First Slayer I suppose) and my first sight of Spike was William in FFL, not Spike in School Hard things might have been different all because of the hair.

Anyway. My other news, of equal lateness, is that there were spoilers in 1942. No, really. Avert your eyes if you're a fan of Sayers and haven't read Busman's Honeymoon.

I'm reading my Ngaio Marsh stories again. Not in order; my favourites first and I'll work through to some of the terrors like Off With His Head and Tied Up In Tinsel. At the moment I'm reading Death and the Dancing Footman. Written in 1942, it has this line, concerning a Sayers book written in 1937, that gives away the murder method

"'A 'Busman's Honeymoon' sort of contraption? But there are no hanging flowerpots at Highfold.'"

I always thought Marsh and Sayers were friends but seemingly not...
I'm in a huge swithery panic here in case I offend anyone but this is my first LJ Christmas and I wasn't planning on sending/expecting to get cards from any of you. Since we emigrated I've been steathily whittling my posted card list right down, giving my mum a handful of ones written in August to take back with her and hand deliver/post in the UK...that sort of thing.

I'm also trying to cut down on the number of presents I have to post back there as I'm sending bulky pressies to kids I've seen twice in 7 years and barely know anymore.

My friends list is around 200 and although there are some of you on that list who are closer than others and I'd love to send you one/get one from you, I'm not going to. That way lies madness.

But I do love lots of you very much and I'd like to give you something so I've come up with an idea that doesn't involve stamps.

Ficards.

Reply to this post with a pairing and I'll write you a teeny tiny snippet that would fit inside a card and I'll post them here nearer to the time.

::hugs you all::

I'm not going to reply individually to you all who asked for one, as I normally do with comments. That's because I have 21 ficards to write so far ::gulp:: Might double some of you up if you asked for exactly the same pairing.

To reiterate; you want one, just ask, don't be shy ::hugs:: Don't expect anything brilliant and bear in mind the 'fit inside a card' aspect of it; we're not talking fics here. Or ficlets. Maybe not even drabbles. If the idea I get for a pairing takes longer than a drabble, that's fine but even I can't write that many long fics when I have houseguests arriving on the 13th who'll be here for three weeks (David's parents). Plus once Pat and I dive into the Bombay Sapphire, I'm not responsible for my actions ::grin::

Have to say I feel creative as I look at the list I've just put together from the posts; some yummy pairings and ideas there and some challenges. Yes, I mean you. And you. Definitely you! ;-)

And thanks to everyone who's doing fics/icons for me! ::hearts you::
