The current Canadian TV Guide has a short article -illustrated by a picture of Buffy - on fanfic.

"If you've ever set pen to paper after a particularly heart-wrenching (or annoying) episode of your favourite show, not to write the network, but to rewrite the plot, you've written fan fiction - and you're not alone. Hundreds of Web sites are dedicated to the art form..."

It goes on to interview Professor Henry Jenkins of MIT who brings in Homer writing about Odysseus;touches on the copyright issue, and ends,

" Certain genres and shows seem to atract fan fiction, particularly sci-fi and fantasy - 'Buffy', 'Star Trek' and even 'CSI' get the redux treatment most often.

"Fan fiction is born of fascination and frustration in equal parts,' Jenkins says, chuckling, and it's true that the tangled mess of some sci-fi plots is enough to make anyone want to plug the holes."

Fascination and frustration...oh, yes.
