As I've done since a child, I took my puzzled but indulgent children into the garden so we could all dab dew on our faces (old English tradition). I don't think it's something I was taught; I read it in a book and as May's my birthday month I was always interested in May-related events.
Back home, the bluebells are out and it's usually well into spring; here it's raining now but the garden is full of hyacinths and the tulips are nearly out. After ten years, I still miss the bluebells. Mum and Dad's garden is bordered by a bluebell wood and the sight and smell of them on a warm day after rain is just incredible.
Yesterday I was very, very productive. I did laundry, tidied, read a book and reviewed it for Torquere, weeded the border, made three pots of strawberry jam and chicken in white wine casserole from scratch and did another thousand words on the next bit of Point of Contact (hovering around 4,000 words now and about five minutes further on than where we left them. Yes.)
And I made two icons but you all know about that ;-)
Thank you to the people who made me better versions of the icon and to
lil_coyote who, many hours after I posted it, was the first person to ask what the hell I was playing at and alert me to the fact that most of you couldn't see what was plain as day to me. I'm left hoping you were all being tactful as the alternatives (I am scary/come over as fragile and easily crushed, which, er, no) are depressing. Unlike the icon mix up which had David and me laughing like drains and no, I don't know what that means; like the dew washing, it's English.
Heroes was very exciting. Loved that background music at the end, very subtle and effective. And Peter looked hot, yes. I then watched my first ever episode of 24, for the ever adorable MS, natch. I think next week I'll tape it and fastforward to the MS bits as it didn't really do much for me. Although I had fun replacing Kiefer with Richard Burgi in my head, as he was going to play his character originally. Nice to see some familiar Buffy/Stargate people, though.
