Waking up to see you have a comment on an old fic is usually a fairly nice way to start the day. It's out of the blue, and you get to read the fic again and (probably) spot a stray comma or whatever, plus, feedback, yay.

Of course, assuming it's feedback and not a flame is a tad on the presumptuous side, but, hey, pre-coffee; that excuses me, right?

I don't know who you are as you didn't sign it, but I always answer comments on my LJ so...

I first started reading your fic in June of 2002 on alt.tv.buffy-v-slayer.creative. The first story I saved was Talk to Me. Having run across your name again today on a rec at http://green-grrl.livejournal.com/45998.html, I had a bittersweet feeling about how much I used to enjoy, "spending time with you until...." It's weird and awkward to have such nostalgia for you. My favorite story of yours was the Giles/Xander one set on the lovely remote island (near the Orkneys or something, I'm not sure). At some point I quit reading your website because I couldn't find the new stories without starting to reread all 70 gazillion of them one at a time. I hated missing the new ones, but you sent me an email that said you weren't going to do anything to help readers who weren't willing to look at your website every week to catch the new ones before they got lost amidst all the others. There was no way that I could look at your website often enough to read them while they were still in your new section, and once they left the new section they might as well have been lost in the national archives, because I sure couldn't find them. I loved you, I hated you, and you never would change your website so the fics were dated or were in order by date. I was terribly frustrated and eventually just quit looking because it was so aggravating that you didn't care about anybody but yourself and the readers who could look at your website every week. The rest of us could just drop dead, you didn't want or need any of us. I wonder now if your website ever improved, but no matter how much I loved your stories, I'm not sure I'm willing to even look. Why get myself upset again after you so obviously didn't want my attention.

Okay, first; I sent you an email that said WHAT? I so did not. I so, so did not. Anyone who's been reading this LJ for long knows that periodically I ask for suggestions on how to improve my webpage and put them into practice. I want the fic to be easy to get to, easy to read. And the idea that I'd ever be so arrogant as to demand people visit it every week... come on! I pet my webpage stats with loving coos of joy; I don't use them to track down people and demand to know why it's been 8.3 days since they swung by.

And the fact that I wouldn't have a clue how to do that has nothing to do with anything.

I remember back when Buffy was all I wrote that it got hard to find new fics on my webpage. I used to put *NEW* next to the fics and then delete it a few weeks later. I was not, nor am I now, all that html savvy. It was a page I'd made totally by myself and I shudder to think what it looked like. Thankfully, kind friends stepped in and helped redesign it after a year or two and I've slowly picked up some of the basics.

I can just about picture myself writing an apologetic email to say that dating the fics would be tricky (it isn't; it's the way I do it now, actually, but I can see how it would have felt tricky back then as I would've had a few hundred fics with no dates on to rearrange. My datelist of fics, with pairing/rating/date is something I set up much later and it took AGES). I also remember clinging stubbornly to the idea that having them in alpha order was the way to go.

I can't picture me ever saying to any readers that I didn't give a toss if they could find the fic or not. Hello? Why do you think I've spent untold hours setting up and maintaining the site if not to get people to read it? I LIKE PEOPLE READING IT. I WANT THEM TO READ IT.

(Duh).

Anyway, whoever you are, the webpage isn't perfect even now. I never did rearrange the Buffy page by dates (you can search by pairing and by rating and it's split into drabbles/ficlets/slash, series, etc) but as I don't write in that fandom now, except once in a blue moon, it's a moot point; there ARE no new fics.

My other fandoms get their own page and the fics are dated and listed with the new fics at the top, just the way you like them.

Feel free to look, feel free to make suggestions.

Just sign your name next time so I know who to be rude to, as I'd hate to disappoint your expectations of me.

(And the way he murmurs 'Yes, ma'am' at one point had me whimpering softly, don't ask me why.)

ETA. Feel free to use the caps if any of you want and no need to credit; I didn't do anything much to them, just cropped and brightened a bit as they were dark.

It's a beautiful, perfect autumn day here, all blue sky and freshness and I'm wrapping up birthday wishes in crinkly russet coloured leaves and sunshine and sending them to two of my oldest friends on LJ, [livejournal.com profile] missmurchison and [livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs.

Hope you're both enjoying your birthdays! :;much love::

RB's in Shark this week, on Sunday, but I was just checking the time for Supernatural (EEEEEEEE!) and saw that Global had Shark on at 10.00 tonight and it looks like the same episode; aspiring actress, plastic surgeon...

So maybe we get it a few days earlier than the US?

Anyway, if that's the right episode, it's on tonight.

Assuming after SPN I'm together enough to change the channels.
