Talisker's gone. They didn't do the operation; his white blood cell count was through the roof, red ones non-existent. He'd have needed two transfusions and that would have brought with it its own risks.

There was nothing more they could do. We drove down, held him, and he went with his head cradled in my hand. It was over in the space of a few seconds. He looked as if he was still sleeping, bless him.

Sue said she'd never known such a fighter and said he was a complete gentleman, who'd never once scratched or bitten her.

We're all devastated here and missing him so much already.
