A short story of mine, Reading Between the Lines, comes out today from Torquere. It was in a 2008 collection of short stories, Kegs and Dorms. That's OOP now.

I revised the story a little since I had the chance but it's essentially the same so don't buy it if you've already read it :-)

Forced to room with a student who hates him on sight, Seth's expecting a rocky semester, and falling for the surly Gabe only adds to his troubles. Gabe's past is full of secrets, a closed book, but can Seth find the way to Gabe's heart by reading between the lines?

Alexa and I got the cover for Killing Time and we've thrilled to bits with it. The artist is Mina Clay and she did an incredible job with it.

Killing Time will be released Feb 25th from Loose Id.

Max and Kaelan, best friends and business partners for five years, are powerful casters with a tendency to get themselves into and out of all kinds of trouble. Pretty much the only thing they've been able to avoid is getting romantically involved – until now. Their sexual attraction hits them like a runaway fireball and they can't keep their hands off each other.

While their sexual attraction burns out of control, they've attracted the attention of a dark caster named Jannes who's planning a spell so potent that it could end the world. To keep them off balance, he's targeting Max and Kaelan through those they love, and there's no one they love more than each other.

With friends and family to protect and their only allies a group of casters who find it easier to fight than cooperate, the odds are stacked against them. So can Max and Kaelan keep it together and stop Jannes before he ends the world, or is the best they can do just killing time?

Just made these and they're very nice.

It's the orange kind of melon like cantaloupe, not watermelon.

1 1/3 cup honeydew, cantaloupe or canary melon puree

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

2/3 cups melted butter or veggie oil

1 cup sugar

2 cup flour

2/3 tsp baking soda

½ tsp baking powder

1 tsp ground ginger
add some chopped crystallized ginger if you like.

Puree melon, mix in eggs, vanilla, oil/butter
Mix together cry ingredients.
Add wet to dry, stir just enough to combine.

Bake at 350º for 20-25 minutes; makes 10-12
