I'm in a yech mood for some reason and this is just a spill of random.

I was reading the latest Nevada Barr (Anna is now rivalling Miss Marple and no park should want her near them). It's very dark indeed, almost to the point where it stops being scary... Anyway, my point is - Barr introduced an OC. It never really occurred to me that you can have what we understand as an OC in an original book but you can... Her Anna Pigeon books are all written from Anna's POV. This one had large parts through the eyes of Heath, a climber, crippled in a fall and in a wheelchair. We see Anna through her eyes, we have story that happens solely to Heath and not to Anna. Heath is, in terms of the Anna stories, an OC.

It felt quite weird when I realised that.

It's three years since I started to write. My first fic, posted on atbtvs, went up on May 25 2002, but it took me several weeks to produce those 2,000 odd words. Had I But Known and all that... it was a rubbish fic in of itself, but the knock-on effects were life-changing.

In the sense that now I have no life that doesn't revolve around writing, that is.

I went to see Hitch Hiker's last week. Hmm. At the risk of annoying people, not terribly impressed by the Star Wars trailer and left feeling rather meh about the film. Bits made me laugh, bits fitted the idea in my head -the factory floor and the last seconds were brilliant - but overall, so much that didn't belong and so much not right. I'm old enough to remember it on radio and to have been there when the first book came out. It's a series I grew up with and I wasn't wild about the movie. 6 out of 10 maybe.

The lethargy is creeping back in. Hopefully I'll finish this sentence before it hits me. Heh. I did. Go

but not that one
