Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] rusty_halo! I've never forgotten your many kindnesses when I arrived here on LJ and in fandom and I hope very much that today is a good one for you ::hugs you::

It's also the last day of school. David is taking the morning off so that we can do Grown Up Things Alone, as it's our last chance before September.

The summer holidays are way too long.

We plan to get the kids off to school, have breakfast in bed, and then go up to Chapters to browse the books in peace and maybe have a coffee in Starbucks, except not an actual coffee because theirs knocks my head off. We will be alone. It will be lovely.

It takes little to make me happy.

And if Chapters let me swap the book I bought several weeks ago that I already own, I'll be ecstatic. I have the receipt and it's clearly unread, but it has been a few weeks...

And speaking of books, I spent the whole afternoon glued to my computer being hopelessly self-indulgent and devouring two stories I'd downloaded at Torquere Press, one a full length novel and the other a short story in the same 'verse.

The scratchy eyes and numb forearm from all the scrolling was well worth it. Totally gorgeous, both of them, and I was alternating between lust, tears, anger and relief at various intervals, completely caught up in the main story.

The full-length novel is here:

"Bareback"

and the short story is
"Running Away to Home"

They're by Chris Owens, which is one of the pen names of [livejournal.com profile] byrne.

It's impossible to discuss without spoiling it, but I fell for Jake and Tor with a loud thud, even when they were breaking my heart into itty bitty pieces.

And as well as character developement, plot, romance and angst, you get smut that had me whimpering aloud at points.

Sort of like the first time I read 'Tea and Biscuits'. Hmm. Odd coincidence, that ::g::
