No damsels to save...
Bugs. Roaches. This is one my mother can never, ever watch.
I was expecting Poltergeist and we didn't get that, which was cool. The actual plot itself was pretty throwaway; this was all about relationships.
So we get it laid on the line that Sam truly believes he's a disappointment and a freak (for being normal). And Dean thinks he's a freak, too, for being weird, but does seem to truly loathe suburbia. they're a pair of freaks and that makes them normal because they cancel out.
Loved the slow reveal that their dad never stopped loving Sam and the way that the father and son in the house weren't left in black/white (although I felt that they were pretty grey all the way through, because, hey, one of my kids let a tarantula loose at a works do, I'd be pretty annoyed with them).
And I don't have to feel the tiniest bit of shame at admitting I had a squee at the 'we welcome people of any sexual persuasion' because it was so very what anyone would think seeing them. 'Honey' :;dies:: Okay, I'm done being 12.
I also have to say how much I like the lighting and the shots of the sky and the car, all small against the landscape. Nice.
