My eyes are doing this whole not-focusing thing because I've been proof-reading for two straight days.
Well, apart from taking time off to watch 'I,Robot' and going to the pictures to see HP and the GoF.
I was terrible as we watched I, Robot because I read the book at 11, own most of Asimov's adult fiction (including his mysteries) and went into spasms at the end when it said, okay, I forget exactly what it said but it wasn't 'based on the book by...' it was something like 'related to', or 'vaguely akin to' or 'we just used the title, a few character names and maybe the word 'positronic'.
If I didn't know what it was supposed to be like, I might have enjoyed it more. I like Will Smith; it had some exciting bits, and the effects were good. I just kept thinking that Asimov would have loathed the idea of it as he wrote the robot stories just because he was so sick of the 'man creates monster, monster turns on man' plot.
The only good thing was that the miraculously younger Susan didn't become the love interest. Cynical me wonders if that's because she was white rather than because, apart from one very specific incident, the only person Susan loved canonically was a robot.
Harry Potter was pretty scary; we took Eleanor, but not Lauren, and Eleanor got freaked by the trailer for Monster House. I enjoyed the film; let me cut so I can babble:
The spider in the classroom! EEEEEE! I was creeped by it and so sorry for it simultaneously.
Harry having to walk through the hall, everyone staring and hissing ::dies of sympathy::
Barty was nicely creepy.
Missed Mrs Weasley, Dursleys, ghosts, more pictures, any actual Quidditch... a little bit. Not much. No room for them.
Effects were good (I looked out for the flippers, Sue!) and very atmospheric.
Cedric and Viktor and Harry are all looking hot these days. Cedric seemed to be in the middle of a crowd of boys patting him every time I saw him. I say nothing because I don't need to.
I adore those little turret rooms. Adore them. It comes of reading 'The Little White Horse' at an early age and falling in love with Maria's room.
I want to write the Daniel/Vala ficlet, but I will be good and get back to proofing.
Still might not be getting all my comments, so sorry if I've missed anything. I'm checking that recent comments thing, but it doesn't help with comms and posts I've made on other LJs.
