I have finished the vid. It's entitled 'Calling' and it's a Jack/Daniel one.

It's totally, 100% my work so don't expect much if you d/l it, as it should be painfully obvious by now that this is all very new to me. And yes, I could've got it beta'd and polished and tidied by a propper vidder but they'd have probably, wisely, suggested scrapping it and starting over and for now the itch is scratched and I've got to-do stuff piling up that I've been ignoring for the last two days, because vidding has eaten up every scrap of spare time.

So. Much. Fun.

I loved it.

This is a breakdown of how I did it and the story behind it. A good vid wouldn't need the commentary but...well. Besides, I'm better at describing with words than pictures, which is why I'm a writer, not a vidder.

A writer whose existing awe and respect for vidders just went off the scale.

You can d/l it here if you want to; about 18MB,wmv, clips from S2-S7.

ETA Or don't, as I've been working on a revised, much better (that part was easy ;-)) version that'll be up soon... :-)

First I chose a song. It's off the Kim Possible soundtrack, 'Call My Name' sung by Christy Carlo Romano. It's a very bouncy, bright song, one I put on to motivate me to do some tidying from time to time.

Then I put the lyrics in Word and played the song on Windows Movie Maker, allocating time slots to each line. Then I picked clips to match the lyrics/time available.

Sounds so simple... Racking my brains to think of what clip would express what I wanted to say, with nearly 200 episodes to choose from, wasn't easy, but when inspiration hit, it was nice.

The vid is from Jack's POV; he's telling Daniel that he'll be there for him, to bring it to basics. And he is, at first; we open with a little montage, classic moments showing them both in tune, Jack being protective... and we see that what makes Daniel's world 'cave in' is being disappointed in Jack, finding out he's not who he thinks he is. And slowly, the bouncy tune twists and gets ironic, because Jack's saving worlds but sometimes it's at a high cost to Daniel.

But finally, in the end, Jack comes through.

There's a recurrent lyric of 'say the word' and I tried as often as possible, to make that match with one of them saying something significant because it added a useful framework.

"Say The Word"

All you have to do is, say the word
I'm there

I'm on it, I've got it
I can do anything
What you need, Got your back
Just say the word, I'm there

If you find your world is cavin' in
You can bet you're gonna need a friend
Someone to take those fears away

Say the word
Make a call and I'll be there
Anytime, anywhere
Have you heard
That I'm all about savin' your world
All you have to do is say the word

In trouble, in it deep
This is a promise that I can keep
Make it right, count on me
To be the best friend I can be
When your life is bending
Upside down
I'll be the one to turn it around

Say the word
Make a call and I'll be there
Anytime, anywhere
Have you heard
That I'm all about savin' your world
All you have to do is say the word
(Say the word)

If you find your world is cavin' in
You can bet you're gonna need a friend
You will fly
Or I will take your fears away

Say the word
Make a call and I'll be there
Anytime, anywhere
Have you heard
That I'm all about savin' your world
All you have to do is say the word

Dial the number, call my name
Day or night, it's all I need
Say the word
'Cuz I'm all about savin' your world
All you have to do is say the word

You don't have to download it and be tactfully kind; I know f/b on vids tends to be sparse even for the good ones and this is a lopsided homemade cake with runny icing of a vid.

I just wanted to do it, and now I have. That's good enough for me.

Did I mention the fun part? And that I'm a quivery heap of nerves?
