Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion. Hope it's being a wonderfully sparkly day for you ::hugs::

And I shall leave some space as I'm once again ill and don't want to pass on the sniffles.

I'd been getting better after 10 days of a sinus-y cold and then this morning I woke feeling back at 10%. Got up, had breakfast (sudafed and raisin toast), crawled back into bed. David's just made me get up and forced a Lem-Sip down me.

I wanted to do a lot today but I don't think I can. Supposed to make the Christmas cake; will have to wait. [livejournal.com profile] ms_3m pointed me at a trial version of Ulead and I installed a 30 day version late last night and was full of love and keen to start work but, eh, maybe not right now.

It was incredible after using Windows Movie Maker though; I imported the Sentinel vid I'd been working on and nearly died when I saw the imperfections exposed that WMM had sneakily hidden. All my old vids are going in to be tidied up.

See, you watch a vid on WMM and you can sometimes see this little flicker between clips that tells you the cut isn't as clean as it should be. So you go back, frame by frame, and trim out the extra bit you don't want.

Except sometimes it isn't there according to WMM and the only way to cut it out is to really slice away on the end of one cut and the start of the next, losing stuff you do want and severely shortening a clip.

Why? Because WMM goes back in big, clumsy jumps and Ulead in precise, single, tenth of a second (I think) paces. I had extra bits ALL OVER THE PLACE. Some I hadn't even known about but they were ruining the look of it anyway (it's amazing how much your eye can see that you can't register but you know it's there).

My only problem right now is that it asked me when I installed if I wanted NTSC or PAL (I think; it was late) and I wasn't sure so I picked NTSC; is that right? And when I import a large chunk, WMM used to split it into clips; would take about 4 minutes for an episode; this seems to import it whole and I can't see how to make clips to be stored in the library? Any help gratefully received.

And now the text is wobbling and I feel as if I'm about to slide sideways off the chair so I'm going to lie down on the sofa and whimper when the cats jump on me.

ETA I gave into temptation and staggered back to play with ULead which now hates me and the little scissors icon is grayed out and I can't trim and it still won't make clips and I'm whimpering pathetically here, just ignore me.
