So we have a hall, sweeping stairs and a balcony around the top floor, which means there's one sheer wall about 20 foot up, parts of which can't be reached without ladders (bought) and a roller on a handle (used one off mop). But, hey, it's been 6 years minimum since it was painted (i.e when we bought house) and it needs it (kids) and my dad's here and wants jobs to do so the purple rag roll has been painted over with white primer, the $3,500 estimate from an interior painter has been scoffingly torn up and we're going it ourselves.

So the ceilings and wood are gleaming white and I've fought David to a grudging agreement of yellow, not pale blue. So I go and buy the yellow and we slap it on and step back, nibbling nervously to watch it dry (we make our own entertainment in _my_ family). So it's vile, yellow/green bright, glary banana when I wanted wood primrose, impossible to imagine over a huge area. So I cry...and go back to plead prettily for them to fix it, add white, add anything to save me $70 of new paint. So they fail and I spend $40 anyway standing there in the shop, talking a nice, helpful but slightly dim sales girl through tipping two cans of yellow (die deceptive yellow that looked so fresh!) into a bucket ( bought), adding one, then two cans of white paint (bought) stirring it with a stick (free!), tipping it into three empty cans (bought and freaking dear at $4 each) with no bloody handles (damn) and then asking for a bin bag to carry my painty bucket home in (free!).

And it's still too dark ::cries:: Will do half hall in it, spend more money on a lighter shade for the other side ::bangs head and if David says one more time, 'Told you we should have had blue' I will...no, best not have it in writing...::

Funniest moment;sales girl frowning at me and saying, "But we can't put the bucket in the paint mixer"

Sometimes, 'Well, duh!' is just so pitifully inadequate...
