I watched this episode from 9 to 10 on the WB, with appalling picture quality and sound, and was all but sobbing until my clever husband noticed it was then on from 10 to 11 on the new PL. So I rewound the tape and watched it all over again. WB is an hour earlier and I get to see the next week bit but good grief it was poor reception last night.
Anyway, I want to ramble on so I'll duck behind the tags as it'll be spoilery for this episode.
I loved it and squeed like a fan girl. Well, that's probably because I am one; I went out shopping today and they had fridge magnets by the checkout and, and, I spent $4 on a Spike fridge magnet and embarrassed my friend by loud squeaks when I noticed it and grabbed it ::blush::
I loved this so much more than last week's. It was little things; the way Angel's face darkened when the soon to be sushi lawyer stepped over the line. Beautiful moment. Spike saying 'no' when Angel told him to get out of the car. Just the way he said it...
Wesley's hurt face when he realised Angel hadn't confided in him 100%;which means that he and Angel are talking, are back to being friends now the Connor thing is wiped...and is it me, or has the throat scar gone? Couldn't see it.
I was so glad to see the reactions to the news that Spike has a soul and saved the world but Angel didn't think that was worth mentioning. Priceless and long overdue as we never really did get to see that on Buffy. Spike's amongst people he's never met, who are used to being around a souled vampire and not getting judgy or hung up on past misdeeds; people with no reason to hate him and every reason to treat him as they do Angel (given time).
It was fricking lovely to hear the concern as they discussed smashing the amulet; not wanting to kill him, just wanting him to be at peace. It was even nicer that Angel couldn't just do it without thinking about it. Kind of threw me in the graveyard when he said that simple 'goodbye' and raised the urn because, hey, I don't spot these plot twist; I'm a simple minded watcher who likes to be taken for a ride, okay? That he could have gotten rid of Spike so easily made me sad. Glad it was a fake out.
And Wes' face when he got called, 'Percy'? Made me giggle. He and Spike could be such fun together, the way Giles and Spike were sometimes.
Spike turning to Fred for help. Eh. Whatever. I liked their interaction; "You think I'm hot?" "Lukewarm"; that was cute but I really don't want them together.
Gunn and Lorne underused...well, Lorne doesn't have a role right now. He's got to find something or he's just there to point up that this is a demon inhabitated world. Gunn's attitude bothers me; the unsmiling text book information he rattled off about the demon Angel killed; so robotic. His reaction when he saw Spike was more like old Gunn.
Harmony made me happy. Last week she was, like all of them, a little off key. This episode she was funny and touching and silly. Spike had more on his mind but he could've given her some response, the thoughtless git.
I smiled at the snark but Angel and Spike got to say some stuff that's long overdue between them. Jealousy on both sides. Angel resents the ease with which Spike dealt with the remorse, overlooking the hell of being influenced by the First, Spike wants his lifestyle but that's overshadowed by the Buffy thing. Europe, hmm? Care to be more specific? Preferably mentioning Giles? No?
Finally, the show ended on Spike's face and I began to hum the Buffy music. But it wasn't. It was the Angel theme. God, I nearly cried. Hit me that Buffy has gone.
But I've been watching Angel from 1.1; I love it too. Looking forward to much more.
