As is common knowledge, LJ is holding an election for a position on its Advisory Board. To vote, if you're eligible, you go

here .

The vote closes at 9.00 p.m. Pacific Time, Thursday May 29th. If you've already voted and want to change your mind, for whatever reason, you can do that too.

It's no secret that there's been a lot of drama around this. One of the candidates, [livejournal.com profile] jameth has an... enthusiastic bunch of supporters, to say the least, who seem to be having fun harassing anyone who doesn't want their candidate to win, and quite frankly, with friends like that...

A Heinlein character once said something along the lines of, 'Always vote. If you don't know who you want to vote for, you know who you want to vote against.'

I'd like someone on that board who represents fandom. We're not all of LJ, but as we found out in Strikethrough, we're an important, vocal, and, at times, surprisingly unified bunch. While Strikethrough angered and worried me for many reasons, one good memory I took from it was the way, for a brief shining moment, all barriers between fandoms, genres, pairings, whatever, dropped and fans tapped into that shared love, enthusiasm and cheerful insanity that is being a fan.

FIAWOL and all that.

So, I'm voting with that in mind. Three candidates who seem to fit the bill from what I've read in their statements and in posts by people whose opinions I value, are [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy, [livejournal.com profile] vichan and [livejournal.com profile] rm.

I'm not sure how much this board will achieve, but I'm prepared to be positive and hope that it'll help to avoid some of the truly dreadful communication breakdowns between LJ and its customers. As I said, it'd be nice to have someone on it who was, to put it bluntly, one of us.

And it'd be good to see more people voting. We wanted a say; this vote is just that and it couldn't be simpler to cast yours.
