We watched it last night, so as promised, here's what I thought and I promise there are actual words under the cut :-)
It was okay. But after the previous two episodes, which rocked, I didn't want okay, I wanted more of what they had. The plotholes and say what? Huh? moments tipped the scale enough for me to be talking at odd moments.
So...maybe a B minus.
And I hated what they did to Donna. How could anyone not hate that? It was so... avoidable. Rose had all that Time Lord power and got fixed with her memories intact; why did Donna need a mindwipe of the stuff that happened to her as a human before she got the memories? Why must she never, ever be told; either the memories are there or they're not. Why... oh, lots of whys. Is there a reason outside the show? Did Tate want to leave?
Me, I like all the companions in the New Who; Rose, Martha, Donna; I've had my issues with them from time to time, but I'm happy with them overall and understand the need to keep them changing but... this is too many as there'll be another one next year. And I'm so not a 'shipper when it comes to the Doctor. Not much of a slasher, either. He just doesn't get sex and love and it's painful watching him try.
So, I could do without the hearts and flowers with Rose and fobbing her off with a copy, like giving a whining child a bowl of ice cream.
And what about Micky? He gets to stay on Earth but Rose doesn't? Am I forgetting something, because is there actually a reason why Rose couldn't stay with the Doctor? Honestly, it's all sort of blurring together now. And we don't get a farewell between Rose and Micky, who used to date, for heaven's sake and who've been together in the other dimension world?
What else... The Tardis cannot lasso the Earth and tow it. I'm sorry, it can't.
K-9!! ::pets him::
There was something else but I've forgotten it now.
Oh! The Daleks were (stupidly) trying to wipe out Life, the Universe, and Everything; Doctor, just stfu about how bad it was to destroy them. Sometimes threats need stamping on and they do. No sympathy for them. None. Zero.
So save the angst for the untold billions who WOULD have died if the other Doctor hadn't had a bit of bloodthirsty and resolute human in him.
