A friend of ours for many years, Rob, lost his battle against colon cancer today. He was one of those people who are the focal point in any room. He was tall, handsome, kind, always smiling, and he made you feel special and interesting.
He was a therapist who dealt with some high profile cases because he was so good at his job. He had a wife and young son and I can't imagine what they're feeling right now, or his dad and stepmother, lovely people who've already suffered losses themselves.
When he found out about the cancer, his first reaction was to fight it, to raise money to research it, to go on with his life. I never once heard him complain.
He said when he went, to raise a glass to him. We'll do that. And shed some tears. No, many tears.
